Physical Description
Color: One of the many physical characteristics of the Orca is it's color. Orcas are mostly black with white spots.
Weight: Now, I think it's amazing for how much it weighs. It can weigh up to 6 tons!
Height and Length: The Orcas height can get up to 6 feet. For me the amazing part of the Orca is it's length. Believe it or not, male Orcas can get up to 19-22 feet. Females on the other hand, can get up to 16-19 feet.
Body covering: When you go to the habitat page you'll find out that Orcas mostly live in cold waters. To keep warm in those waters they have a special body covering called, blubber. Blubber helps keep them warm when they're in cold waters!
Dorsal fin: Unlike other whales Orcas have a dorsal fin. Dorsal fins are the big triangle shaped things on their back. You're probably wondering how to tell the difference between males and females. Well, you can tell by their dorsal fins. Males dorsal fins are very tall, while on the other hand female dorsal fins are shorter.
Blowhole: All whales have at least one or two blowholes to breath. Orcas have one blowhole. When orcas come up to breath their dorsal fin is sraight up. But, when they breath in their dorsal fin curves, and when they breath out, their dorsal fin is straight up again!
Melon, flukes, and saddle: Of course Orcas have a head other known as a melon, and they also have two flippers. Orca whales are very big, which means they have a very large fluke other known as a tail! Right behind the Orcas dorsal fin, there is a white spot called a saddle.
Teeth: One very different thing about Orca whales is that they have very sharp teeth. There are two different kinds of teeth. One is kind of like a toothbrush and the other is sharp teeth. Most whales have the toothbrush kind, but not Orcas!
